Rockwall residents craving H-E-B’s butter flour tortillas will be able to purchase them next year at a local outpost of the beloved Texas grocery brand.

The San Antonio-based grocer’s Rockwall location was announced in September, but a recent state filing provides more details about H-E-B’s highly anticipated invasion of North Texas. The Rockwall project is expected to start construction this coming August and will be completed by September 2025, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The estimated cost is $40 million.

The 135,000-square-foot store will be located at the southwest corner of John King Boulevard and Interstate 30. The design firm is Fort Worth-based RSP Architects.

Since 2022, H-E-B has opened four stores in North Texas: in Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Allen, the Dallas Morning News reported. H-E-B is planning four stores for 2024 and another four stores for 2025. The other new stores will be located in Alliance, Mansfield, Frisco, Melissa and Dallas.

The list also includes two locations of the brand’s smaller footprint location, Joe V’s Smart Shop. One is under construction at 4101 West Wheatland Road in the Red Bird area of Dallas; the other will be at 5204 South Buckner Boulevard, in Dallas’ Buckner Terrace. This small-footprint offering was inspired by value stores like Aldi. At 55,000 square feet, they are about half the size of H-E-B stores but still offer produce stocked daily, fresh meat cut in-store, a bakery and a sushi counter.

The Wheatland Road location is expected to open this summer.

H-E-B also operates six outposts for its fine foods retailer Central Market in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Texas’ favorite supermarket company was founded in 1905. H-E-B has more than 420 stores in Texas and Mexico and employs more than 145,000 people. The company brings in $34 billion annually.
