Kroger merger with Albertsons would sell 26 DFW stores

A handful of Albertsons, Market Street and Tom Thumb stores in Texas would be sold off to C&S Wholesale Grocers in the proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons.

The sale will come if and when regulators give final approval to a merger of the Kroger and Albertsons grocery chains. The deal would require Kroger/Albertsons to divest 28 stores in Texas, including 26 in DFW, the Dallas Morning News reported. 

The two chains plan to sell off 579 stores under various brands nationwide. C&S Wholesale Grocers in Keene, New Hampshire, is lined up as a buyer who has committed to continuing operations of the locations. None of them area expected to close.

Kroger and Albertsons are expected to go to court in conjunction with the Federal Trade Commission next month for a final ruling on the merger. 

Twenty-six of the locations of brands owned by Albertsons that are due to be sold to C&S are in DFW, and two are in the Houston area.
