Late oil tycoon Cary Maguire’s Preston Hollow mansion listed at $29M

Massive estate once hosted presidents, prime ministers and power brokers

Late Oil Tycoon’s Mansion Among Dallas’ Priciest Homes

A Preston Hollow estate with presidential pedigree is up for grabs at $28.5 million.

The Neo-Georgian mansion at 4606 Park Lane was built in 1985 for the late Cary Maguire, founder of Maguire Oil Company and Maguire Energy Company, whose philanthropy left a lasting mark at Southern Methodist University. Architect Jack Hemphill designed the nearly 21,000-square-foot home on 3.2 acres. At $1,362 per square foot, it’s one of the priciest listings within Dallas city limits, the Dallas Morning News reported

Only the Crespi Estate tops it, among Dallas homes on the market, with an asking price of $64 million and $2,362 per square foot.

Dallas Central Appraisal District records show

The property’s ownership is hidden behind the Four Thousand Trust, which acquired it in 2022 following Maguire’s death. Over the past two and a half years, the owners poured millions into upgrades, reimagining the mansion for modern living before a job transfer forced a change of plans.

“The whole home has been completely redone,” said Compass broker Faisal Halum, who has the listing.

It’s not just a house — it’s a stage. A great hall stretches the length of the first floor, with refinished parquet floors and custom fixtures. A two-story den with a 23-foot ceiling anchors the home, while the glass conservatory, Art Deco bar and barrel-vaulted banquet hall provide ample space for gatherings. The estate also features a black-lacquered lounge, a wine room, and a sculptural brass tub in the primary suite.

The estate’s guest list reads like a who’s who of 20th-century politics. Both Bush presidents, Gerald Ford and Margaret Thatcher walked its halls, while Czech President Vaclav Klaus and Cowboys legend Roger Staubach also made appearances. Maguire’s extensive presidential memorabilia collection once filled the home and was part of the attraction, including Benjamin Harrison’s White House china and busts of every U.S. president.

Halum called the offering a rare chance to secure land and legacy in one of Dallas’ most exclusive enclaves, and said grabbing acreage in Preston Hollow is almost impossible.
