A commercial real estate broker at Marcus & Millichap’s Houston office has made the move to a competitor.
Riley Sharman, who specialized in multi-tenant shopping centers and healthcare in Texas and nationally, has joined Stan Johnson and Co. as a director in its Houston office.
A native of Houston, Sharman has been in the commercial real estate business since 2005. His stops include National Retail Group, where he was an underwriter, Colliers International as a retail investment sales specialist, and at Pristine Bay Hotel Development Group, where he focused on consulting on direct marketing and sales for private clients’ Western Caribbean commercial properties.
“I’m making the move to Stan Johnson to focus on single-tenant retail and medical, and I have the opportunity to build a team and use Stan Johnson’s existing research platform,” Sharman said.
Reflecting on his time at Marcus & Millichap and looking ahead to Houston’s commercial retail market, Sharman said he was settling in his new office and closing up a few deals at Marcus and Millichap.
The last three quarters of 2020 were a tough time for the commercial retail business but in 2021 low-interest rates and consumer demand gave retailers and restaurants reasons to expand and investors to jump in, Sharman said.
Even though interest rates are on the rise now and a potential recession is on the horizon, there are still opportunities for private investors in the commercial retail space, noted Sharman.
“Not everything is doom and gloom,” he said.
