Despite growing headwinds in the housing market, Douglas Elliman is expanding in Houston.

The New York City-based brokerage’s newest office is located in River Oaks at 2800 Kirby Drive in the swank Shops at Arrive, a high-end shopping center in one of the city’s most venerable neighborhoods. Needless to say, it will focus on luxury.

Douglas Elliman’s move to open a second Houston location comes at a time when real estate listings in the Bayou City are becoming scarcer and prices are starting to come down across all types of homes on the market. High-end deals are happening, but sellers are offering steep discounts.

Douglas Elliman’s 4,055 square-foot space will have a “hybrid of interior design atelier and real estate office,” according to a company release.

The interior design will feature furniture from CASA Houston, an interior design company that focuses on Italian brands such as Henge, a high-end Italian custom furniture manufacturer, which is known for unique intricate designs and use of organic materials will be used in the office.

The new digs will also have inside common areas, two separate outdoor spaces and a community workspace showcasing “luxury living in functional, productive and professional environments.”

James Horne, senior executive sales manager of sales for Douglas Elliman in Houston, has been tapped to lead the new office, in addition to the company’s current location at 2001 Kirby Drive.

“We are thrilled to welcome our talented sales professionals to their new office and home,” said Horne. “This is our second location in the heart of Houston and it gives us increased visibility while setting our talented team up for success.”

The brokerage broke into the Texas market in 2019 via a joint venture with Sudhoff Companies, a Houston real estate marketing and sales company that specializes in new development.

“Since we expanded to Houston three years ago, our team of talented agents continues to grow,” said Douglas Elliman CEO Scott Durkin.
The length and financial terms of Douglas Elliman’s lease with Shops at Arrive, which is owned by San Francisco -based FPA Multifamily LLC were not disclosed.
