Ranking Houston’s top resi brokers

The Bayou City’s top 10 agents and teams did more than $1 billion in deals over the past year

The top 10 brokers and teams in Houston booked more than $1 billion in sales volume across more than 2,000 deals over the past 12 months. Here’s how they rank.

The Real Deal analyzed on-market home-sales data for the Houston area from Oct. 14, 2021, to Oct. 14, 2022, to see which brokers and teams had the highest sales volume for that period. The data was shared with all the brokers in the ranking, who were given the chance to vet the list of sales they were credited with. Credit was given for both buy-side and sell-side transactions, but only on-market sales were counted.

The Loken Group — led by Lance Loken at Keller Williams Platinum — claimed the top spot by a wide margin with $217 million in total sales volume for that period. That’s nearly 50 percent higher than the No. 2 ranked Franklin Team at eXp Realty, which did over $147 million in deals, but the rest of the top five were more tightly grouped.

The Mark Dimas Team at Mark Dimas Properties did $135 million worth of deals over the 12-month period, followed closely by the first individual broker on the list, Mike Mahlstedt at Compass, who booked $133 million. CitiQuest Properties’ Patrick Burbridge rounded out the top five with $126 million.

The Loken Group — famed for selling the former home of legendary astronaut Neil Armstrong in 2020 — also ruled in terms of deal count, closing 612 sales during the 12-month period, almost 38 percent more than the Mark Dimas Team’s 444 transactions.

But total volume and deal count aren’t the whole story. Mahlstedt’s sales volume trailed the Dimas team by less than $2.5 million, but he achieved that on the back of just 70 deals, for an average of nearly $1.9 million per deal — versus Loken’s $354,416, Franklin’s $351,098 and Dimas’ $304,313.

Other standouts among the top 10 include Laura Sweeney of Compass, who had the highest average price per deal in that cohort — $2.5 million — booking more than $95 million in total volume with just 38 deals. Sweeney’s Compass colleague Dee Dee Guggenheim Howes averaged just over $2.3 million per deal, and Walter Bering of Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty averaged $2.2 million.
