An $8 million estate near Houston has a bedroom that’s as big as a house.
The 13,000-square-foot home at 401 Lakeshore Drive in El Lago is being marketed as having Texas’ largest primary suite, at 4,400 square feet.
The sellers listed the home, which sits on 5 acres, because they’re looking to move to Florida. Nancy Almodovar of Nan and Company Properties, Christie’s International Real Estate has the listing. The address isn’t included in Harris Central Appraisal District’s online database.
The home has six bedrooms, a vehicle showroom, a boat ramp and helicopter access. Two lion statues face a circular driveway wrapped around five fountains, behind a gated entry.
“Buyers are looking for somewhere they can come home and have fun,” Almodovar said. “You can fish in your backyard. You can hop on your boat and go for a ride, or you can jump on your helicopter and go to the city and have dinner.”
The main suite features a large domed ceiling, with outdoor stone pillars and a balustrade fronting a curved semi-circular window with a view of Taylor Lake. This is Almodovar’s latest “largest” listing. She sold the “world’s largest closet” in socialite Theresa Roemer’s mansion in The Woodlands three years ago. It was last listed at over $6 million.
The listing in El Lago hit the market last week. It last asked $2.5 million in 2017 before current the owner “completely gutted and remodeled” the estate, updating the air conditioning units, kitchen, roof and boat slip and adding the gate and standalone car showroom. In El Lago, many of the home owners are entrepreneurs, or run businesses abroad remotely, Almodovar said.
Just next door, at 319 Lakeshore Drive, a modern-style lakefront home listed by Compass’ Alexandra Loyd is listed for $9 million. Census Data places El Lago’s median annual household income at $99,000 compared to Houston’s $63,000.
As top home sales in the Houston area trended to ultra-luxury this summer, there was a noticeable increase in activity, Almodovar said. While interest slowed over the summer months, there have been more phone calls, website visits and open house traffic this month, she said. Separately from Christie’s, Nan’s first-time home buyer division saw three new contracts for one of its developments over the weekend, compared to about three each month during the summer, she said.
