The $1.3 billion Belmont Park redevelopment on Long Island is underway — and Gov. Andrew Cuomo has released new renderings of the project. Cuomo joined developers, New York Islanders executives and other officials at a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Long Island Business News reported. The project will include a hotel, a 350,000-square-foot retail center and a 19,000-seat arena that will be home to the New York Islanders. “The Islanders belong on Long Island — and today we start building the state-of-the-art home this team and their fans deserve while generating thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity for the region’s economy,” Cuomo said at the groundbreaking. Officials say the arena should be up and running in time for the 2021-2022 NHL season, according to the outlet. [LIBN]
