New Yorkers may really be bringing coronavirus to the suburbs and beyond

Residents in cities and towns surrounding New York City have accused city dwellers fleeing their coronavirus-devastated city of spreading the virus to their communities, but are they right? It appears so. City residents were the first confirmed cases in at least two towns. Reports of flu-like symptoms have doubled in some areas where New Yorkers tend to have summer retreats, including the Hamptons, Catskills, and the Jersey Shore. In response, some towns have closed their beaches to discourage New Yorkers from treating the pandemic like vacations. One Fire Island ferry operator suspended all trips to the island.
