Wealthy folks isolating in the Hamptons aren’t slowing down their spending — and it is straining sanitation workers, according to the Daily Beast.

Workers described massive amounts of cardboard and packing waste they have had to pick up from the curbs outside estates on their routes. They worry it is increasing their risk of contracting Covid-19 themselves. (Studies have found the coronavirus can survive 24 hours on cardboard, but the risk of infection drops over time as the virus dries out and dies.)

The coronavirus pandemic led to a surge in rentals and prompted many Hamptons vacation homeowners to head east earlier than usual. Workers said many residents are buying new furniture. Some are making prepper-level purchases, such as buying multiple freezers. [Daily Beast] — Dennis Lynch
