Suffolk County weighs raiding environmental funds to limit property taxes

The Suffolk County Legislature meets on Tuesday to weigh a referendum that could divert sales tax revenue from the county’s environmental programs and towards stabilizing property taxes, according to Newsday.

County legislators will consider legislation to let county voters decide the issue. Some sales tax revenue would be diverted to the countywide property-tax protection program, which is designed to “reduce or stabilize” property taxes.
