Suffolk County officials say the county plans to seize the former Oakdale campus of defunct Dowling College after its owners failed to pay property taxes.
Delaware-based Mercury International LLC bought the 25-acre property in 2017 but hasn’t paid $4 million it owes in taxes, according to Newsday. Mercury claimed it would develop the property, which includes a 19th century mansion built by William K. Vanderbilt, but never did. County Comptroller John M. Kennedy Jr. said his office could take control of the property as soon as January. “We should move quickly and get it back out to the market and put it out for sale,” he said. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
