North Sea residents remain opposed to 120-unit condo project

North Sea residents are not backing down from their opposition to a 120-unit condominium development proposed in the neighborhood, according to the Southampton Press.

The project, which would replace a dump, has faced fierce opposition since it debuted to the public last August. Residents again railed against it at a virtual Southampton Town Board meeting on Thursday. Neighbor Anthony Dreyer called the 20-acre project a “monstrosity,” and said there was “tremendous amount of concern and frankly outrage” about it.

Resident Marilyn Zaretsky rhetorically asked, “Where is the report that says we need 120 condos in North Sea?”

Developer Engel Burman said the project qualifies under the town’s zoning code, which allows nonconforming use to replace a nonconforming use if the new project is more beneficial to the community than what was there before.
