A senior housing developer is planning a second project in Huntington, N.Y., after the first one stirred opposition from town residents.
Engel Burman wants to build a 190-unit townhouse community in the Elwood section on a former industrial site, Newsday reported. The development would be for people 55 and older and would rise on 14 acres.
Locals strongly opposed Burman’s nearby Seasons at Elwood senior housing development, but the project was ultimately approved.
The new project has support from town board member Gene Cook, who had opposed Seasons at Elwood over traffic concerns. Cook said he has since changed his opinion of that project. Cooks said Burman’s new proposal would have less of an impact on traffic and would boost local businesses.
Some residents spoke against the planned development at a recent public hearing, a sign of another potential fight. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
