The Y.M.C.A. of Greater New York is selling three summer camps as the organization deals with the financial fallout of the pandemic.

Located in Huguenot, New York, and totaling 1,000 acres, the camps had for decades hosted underserved children. Around 1,200 kids ages 7 to 16 attended each summer, and a third of them received financial aid from the Y.M.C.A., according to the New York Times, which first reported the story.

The nonprofit hopes to sell the three camps for a total of about $5 million, according to the report. The organization would not say whether it would require the buyer to maintain the summer camps.

“The camp closing is yet another example of the poor minority community taking an especially hard hit,” filmmaker John Block, a former counselor and a member of the board of managers told the paper.
