Nassau County will fight any attempt to develop homes on Peninsula Golf Club in Oyster Bay.

That’s the word from County Executive Laura Curran now that owner PDGC Holding Corp. is in talks to sell the property to a Florida company for $4.4 million, according to Newsday.

Oyster Bay town officials had the property — located within the hamlet of East Massapequa — appraised in March as a step toward potentially buying it or seizing it via eminent domain.

The county sold it in 1946 with a covenant requiring the property remain a golf course, and barring residential or commercial development unrelated to golf course operations.

In a letter to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Curran said the county “would seek to enjoin any future use of the property that does not maintain its long-standing status.”

An Oyster Bay spokesperson said the town was working “to pursue a zoning change that ensures permanent open space and recreational opportunities at this property for decades to come despite any change in ownership.” [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
