In real estate, developer Sam Charney is a boroughs guy. He's built thousands of units in Long Island City and Gowanus, where his firm, Charney Companies, took advantage of a rezoning to supercharge building in the formerly industrial area. Charney, who grew up in Manhattan and has now purchased his first major project there, has been strategic about reading the tea leaves of New York City's housing patterns to select his areas of focus.

For developer Roy Stillman and his partners Steve Silverman and Leon Silvera, buildings aren’t just businesses and homes, they are works of art. “A real estate development project is a large sculpture,” Stillman told us from The Centurion, the Midtown West condo his firm, Stillman Development International LLC, developed with legendary architect I.M. In fact, Rodriguez, who is an avid cook, expressed his desire for residents to enjoy cooking as much as he does. He mentioned, “We like providing these capabilities.”
