Two new roller coasters are set to open on Coney Island this April, according to the Wall Street Journal, in the area’s newest amusement park, the Scream Zone. The two rides, Steeplechase Coaster and Soaring Eagle, are the first new roller coasters Coney Island has seen since 1927, when the famed Cyclone coaster opened. Construction on Scream Zone is set to begin next week. Central Amusement International, a subsidiary of Coney Island operator Zamperla USA, will be responsible for the construction. The amusement park operator has signed a 10-year lease for Scream Zone, which will be located along the boardwalk between West 12th and 15th streets. [WSJ]
