East Village, Lower East Side lead Manhattan’s residential sales growth last year

From the 2012 Data Book: The East Village and Lower East Side market and Battery Park City experienced the largest annual increases in residential sales in Manhattan in 2011, according to The Real Deal‘s 2012 Data Book. The former saw a 47.8 percent annual sales gain last year to reach 269 sales, and Battery Park City recorded a 44.3 percent yearly rise to bring its total to 202. While Lower Manhattan clearly improved last year — in fact, the Downtown market led Manhattan with 3,081 total sales — Upper Manhattan suffered. Hamilton Heights and Morningside Heights sawtheir sales figures plummet 44.3 percent in 2011 to just 44 sales. In terms of total sales among individual neighborhoods, Midtown East and the Lincoln Center sub-markets led the way, while Inwood and Hamilton Heights had the fewest.
