Death marks second killing of a property owner in a week, following Menachem Stark

Less than a week after Williamsburg landlord Menachem Stark was murdered, police are looking into the homicide of a Ditmas Park landlord whose body was found just after midnight. A male tenant is a person of interest in the case.

Cops found the landlord, Mahuddin Mahumd, 57, in one of his own basement rentals at 546 McDonald Avenue near Avenue C in Kensington with his throat slit.

He was pronounced dead on the scene, police and sources told the New York Post and Gothamist. Officers were responding to a call about an assault in progress at the time, the New York Daily News reported. Mahumd lived about a mile away at 405 Westminster Road, according to Gothamist.

The tenant hasn’t been seen since Mahumd was found, and no arrests have been made, the Post reported. Mahumd’s death is the second in the past week in the real estate world, following the kidnapping and grisly murder of Stark. Stark’s killing is also still under investigation.     The NYPost by celebrating a landlords death this past Sunday, basically started this “Kill ur landlord!” trend and should be held accountable to the full extent of the law.
    We all saw this coming.
    Shame on the NYPost!

    HPD has 4 violations for no heat on this building alone. Why is he not cited as “slumlord”?

      Cause his buildings don’t get seized by the DEA. As a landlord there is obligations to the tenants. I fulfill my obligatons and always maintain a working relationship with the tenant even if they are behind on rent.

        But no matter how many outstanding violations are levied against a building, its owner never deserves to be murdered.

      We had heating complaints when they turned off the radiators and opened the windows. Steam heat is very specific and hard to break down so if not for sabotage, the heat doesn’t stop flowing through the systems. We can show the inspectors our books on the subject but when they get to the building, they are always protenant and don’t force the tenant to turn on the radiators and wait to see if there is a change in temperature, do they?

      We get middle of the night calls about the heat and we keep a record of daytime and nighttime temperatures for the entire heating season. Very often, there is no reason for a tenant to make that complaint and when the last riser and radiator to get heat is HEATED then that indicates that it is not possible for a radiator to grow cold.

      An inspector should shut all the windows and then turn on the rads and wait it out to see if a tenant is making a sincere complaint before issuing a violation.

    We have to be allowed to investigate our tenants and get their social security numbers and we have to be able to kick them out if they are murderers of the landlord as is the case with our building on Mott Street. This is disgusting.
