Houston Methodist Hospital’s planned Cypress expansion is one step closer.

The hospital expects to spend about $12 million to build out a structure, spanning 45,700 square feet, in what will be its ninth Houston-area hospital, at 24510 Northwest Freeway, between Barker-Cypress and Skinner roads.

That’s about $263 per square foot for medical finishouts to the recently constructed building, which will be completed in early 2024, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Methodist Houston bought 106 acres, off U.S. Highway 290, less than 30 miles northwest of downtown Houston, back in 2021. A 400-bed hospital spread throughout multiple medical buildings is planned, expected to employ about 500 people upon completion.

The Houston medical industry is experiencing a robust year, with new projects on the horizon. CBRE recently ranked the metro as the No. 2 emerging life sciences hub in the nation.

Baylor College of Medicine also recently announced a 503,000-square-foot expansion of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the state, for an estimated $8.9 million.

There is also a 500-acre biomanufacturing and medical supplies distribution center coming to the Texas Medical Center, in a development that will double its size.
