A Lower Manhattan townhouse made famous as John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s so-called Nutopian Embassy has hit the market asking $4.25 million, according to Curbed. Lennon and Ono gave the townhouse’s address when applying to the UN for diplomatic immunity as ambassadors of the “conceptual country” of Nutopia on  April Fool’s Day 1973.

“We announce the birth of a conceptual country, Nutopia. Citizenship of the country can be obtained by declaration of your awareness of Nutopia. Nutopia has no land, no boundaries, no passports, only people. Nutopia has no laws other than cosmic. All people of Nutopia are ambassadors of the country. As two ambassadors of Nutopia, we ask for diplomatic immunity and recognition in the United Nations of our country and its people,” Lennon and Yoko wrote at the time. The couple signed the statement: Yoko Ono Lennon, John Ono Lennon, Nutopian Embassy, One White Street, New York, New York.

But Lennon fans may be disappointed that the 2,820-square-foot building has little left dating back to 1973. The four-story building was gutted after it last sold for  $3.25 million in 2010. Massay Knakal is handling the listing, which includes ground-level commercial space. [Curbed] —Christopher Cameron
