Developer supports using Brooklyn lot for Citi Bike station

An elected state official from Brooklyn thinks a vacant lot in Carrroll Gardens would make a great Citi Bike station — and the real estate company that owns the land agrees.

Assemblywoman Joan Millman is pushing city transportation officials — with the support of 336 Union Realty LLC — to bring the bike-sharing program to the Smith and Union streets site. The parcel, one block from the Carroll Street subway station, is not on the street so no parking spots will be lost, Millman said.

A Community Board 6 member told DNAinfo the land would be an “unusual spot” for the Department of Transportation to consider because it is privately owned.

Elsewhere in Brooklyn, Citi Bike stations are planned for Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bed-Stuy. There are already stations at State and Smith streets, Atlantic Avenue and Henry Street, and Bond and Schermerhorn streets, the website said. [DNAinfo]Mark Maurer
