A bit of user error has racked up quite a bill for Andre Balazs, the hotelier powerhouse behind the Mercer and Standard hotels.

Balazs, who signed up for Citi Bike using his credit card, took his bike for a spin around the city and to the office for several days, thinking he had a full week’s worth of access to the healthy new program. A kind person at his office, however, finally asked him what the heck he was doing.

“I thought the bike was mine for six days,” Balazs told the New York Post, not realizing he had signed up for a week’s worth of access. “They said, ‘You idiot, you’re running up a huge bill.'”

Right they were, as Balazs wound up with a $400 tab. [NYP] Julie Strickland
