This bedbug-infested “American Life”: Ira Glass gets sued by condo board

“This American Life” creator Ira Glass and his wife are accused of allowing an “infestation of bedbugs” to form in their condo unit at 159 West 24th Street, known as the “Carriage House.”

The building’s condo board has filed a lawsuit in the Manhattan State Supreme Court, accusing the couple of failing to address the problem, the New York Post reported.

The board alleges the bedbug issue began in June, and it also says the couple has allowed a rodent infestation to build up as a result of “unsanitary conditions” at the apartment. According to court documents, the board says other occupants of the building have been forced to vacate and that their “comfort, safety and quiet enjoyment” has been interfered with.

Neither Glass nor his wife, writer and editor Anaheed Alani, have allowed the building’s management to enter their one-bedroom apartment, which they bought for $1.27 million back in 2012, the condo board alleges.

The complaint also suggests the couple caused damage to other unit units, by failing to repair various appliances. “Other conditions exist in the unit, including broken/defective air condition unit, kitchen sink, dishwasher and washing machine,” the complaint reads.

The building’s board of managers want to be compensated for repair costs, but Glass told the Post the matter has already been dealt with.

“My understanding is another apartment in the building has bedbugs,” he said. “We paid a bunch of money for exterminators. As far as I know, it’s been resolved. We’re done.” [NYP] — Miriam Hall
