Corcoran lands city’s priciest rental — and its listing agent
Andres Perea-Garzon left Compass after a year
Andres Perea-Garzon — who holds the distinction of brokering the city’s priciest rental deal at $500,000 a month — jumped to the Corcoran Group after a year at Compass.
Perea-Garzon rented out a suite on the 39th floor of the Pierre for half-a-million dollars back in 2014. The full-floor, 4,800-square-foot pad was re-listed for the same price in March 2016. Perea-Garzon brought the listing, plus five others at the hotel, to Corcoran. His other rental listings at the Pierre are asking $125,000; $85,000; $75,000; $50,000; and $37,000 per month.
Perea-Garzon declined to comment on the move, but Corcoran [TRDataCustom] and Compass are fierce rivals when it comes to hiring top agents. After losing several key people to the venture-backed startup in 2015, Corcoran recently upped its recruiting effort. Last week, Richard Smith, who is the CEO of Realogy Holdings — Corcoran’s corporate parent — pledged the company would become a “recruiting machine.”
Perea-Garzon, who was an agent at Town Residential for four years before defecting to Compass, landed the Pierre listings while at Town. He brokered the record-breaking rental deal with former colleague Therese Bateman, now an agent at Brown Harris Stevens. After posting a picture of the iconic hotel on Instagram, Taj Hotels, which manages the hotel’s residences and suites, commented on the post and encouraged him to reach out to one of their managers. Perea-Garzon now manages a portfolio of 15 units at the Pierre.
The $500,000-a-month suite is the priciest rental on the market, according to StreetEasy. A penthouse at 28 East 63rd Street is asking $300,000 and a penthouse at 988 Fifth Avenue is asking $100,000. Kushner Companies quietly marketed several unsold Puck penthouses as rentals, asking as much as $150,000.
