Residents voted to remove “Trump” signage from Manhattan condo, court papers show
Tenants at 200 Riverside Boulevard voted 158-59 to remove it last February
Residents at a condominium on the Upper West Side want President Trump’s name off of their building, according to a lawsuit.
The tenants of 200 Riverside Boulevard voted 158 to 59 in February 2017 to remove the “TRUMP” sign from their building, according to the Daily News. The board initially decided not to take the letters down after the Trump Organization sent them a letter threatening a lawsuit, but members then filed their own lawsuit in January asking a judge to let them take the sign down.
Tenants did not vote to take the sign down lightly and received a briefing from the NYPD’s counter-terrorism unit last year, where they were told police did not view the building as a likely target for terrorists, legal papers show.
And not everyone in the building agreed on taking down the sign, with one resident writing, “People should get out of their liberal bubble. I don’t want a handful of vocal people who don’t share my values and views deciding what happens. Even if it costs a dollar I won’t support it.”
The Trump name has also come down at the former Trump Soho, which owner CIM Group renamed the “Dominick Hotel.” The Trump name has also been stripped at real estate projects in Toronto and Panama. [NYDN] – Eddie Small
