Sunset Park could be getting a film and television studio.
New York City Economic Development Corporation and the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment are asking developers to pitch them on ways to develop nearly 200,000 square feet of waterfront property in the area, Variety reported.
Interested parties can tour the space on August 15 — and the city hopes to receive request for proposals by November 2. Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen thinks it’s possible for construction to start as early as 2019, the report said.
The space will be in the Made in New York Campus at Bush Terminal. Officials told Variety they are also open to proposals for video and photo-shooting facilities, sound-recording spaces, and spaces for emerging media sectors like augmented and virtual reality.
The move comes as the city has sought to shape the Brooklyn neighborhood into a home for media production and garment manufacturing, among other industries. Glen told Variety the city is open to proposals that include requests for tax incentives — but they are not offering any to developers for this project. [Variety] — Meenal Vamburkar
