The Real Deal is excited to share that senior reporter E.B. Solomont has won two Front Page Awards from the Newswomen’s Club of New York.

The organization, founded in 1937, recognizes the best journalism by women working in print, wire, broadcast and online media. Solomont won for her November 2017 magazine news feature “Macklowe vs. Macklowe,” as well as the online edition of “The death of the brokerage,” which ran in May 2018.

The first feature pieced together courtroom tales from the contentious divorce trial between Manhattan developer Harry Macklowe and his wife, Linda. At stake? Nearly $2 billion in real estate, art and other assets that Justice Laura Drager promised to split 50-50.

“What Harry is worth, and what Linda is owed, is a matter of fiery debate,” she wrote. “It’s Solomon splitting the baby, real estate edition.”

Solomont’s second award-winning story explored the fallout following the closure of Town Residential’s sales and leasing business in April 2018. Can traditional brokerages survive a multi-front assault from rising costs, discount firms, star agents, open data and huge sums of venture capital? Read for yourself.

Last year, The Real Deal’s Kathryn Brenzel picked up a Front Page Award with former editor Elizabeth Kim for their January 2017 cover story titled “Real Estate’s Diversity Problem,” which explored the challenges that women and minorities face in the industry. And in 2015, Solomont nabbed her first Front Page Award for her cover package, “The Year of the Chinese Investor.”

Other honorees this year include Maggie Haberman from the New York Times and Marcia Biggs of PBS.
