Extell revises Central Park Tower plans, removing spire

It appears conjecture over the planned height of Gary Barnett’s supertall Central Park Tower, at 217 West 57th Street in Midtown, can finally be laid to rest.

New renderings indicate that Extell Development has tweaked the skyscraper’s design to get rid of the tower’s spire, while the building’s parapet height of 1,550 feet would make it the tallest building by roof height in the Western Hemisphere.

The removal of the planned spire atop Central Park Tower – formerly known as the Nordstrom Tower — finally quashes reports that the residential skyscraper would potentially surpass 1 World Trade Center in height. Barnett came out earlier this year to “categorically” deny such claims.

The latest design revision does boost the building’s planned roof height from 1,522 feet, while the 1.3 million-square-foot tower’s floor count has also increased to 99 stories. The project is slated for completion in 2019.

Extell is aiming for a record $4.4 billion sellout at the mixed-use condo tower, with $4 billion of that coming from condo sales and $400 million from selling commercial space at the building’s base to retailer Nordstrom. [NY YIMBY] – Rey Mashayekhi
