Another month, another round of top-tier residential sales dominated by JDL Development’s No. 9 Walton condo tower in the Gold Coast.
The fast-selling luxury units are part of a banner year for home sales at the tip-top of the market, even as prices sag for units in the $1-$4 million range.
No 9 Walton has already rounded up some of the richest and most famous names in the city, from billionaire Ken Griffin to Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward.
The more than $55 million in home sales on this list, compiled from Cook County property records, also includes three single-family homes in Lincoln Park, led by a quadruple-lot mansion that fetched nearly $12 million.
1. 1950 North Burling Street | $11,900,000
This 8,000-square-foot mansion was the city’s third-highest listing before it sold last month, after about $1 million was knocked off its asking price. The price tag eclipsed that of every deal recorded in the city during the first half of the year, with the exception of a seven-bedroom condo taking up the entire 21st floor of No. 9 Walton, which sold for $12.1 million in January.
The sellers, Conrad and Elizabeth von Peterffy, bought the home for $5.36 million in 2012. It was picked up by an unlisted buyer, who closed the deal through a trust.
2. 9 West Walton Street Unit 2502 | $6,293,500
This unit on the 25th floor of the 38-story No. 9 Walton sold to a buyer under the guise of WaltonQQ LLC.
3. 9 West Walton Street Unit 2401 | $6,112,500
JDL sold this unit to a buyer who hid its identity through a trust. The building’s website lists units between the 18th and 27th floors as three-bedrooms measuring about 3,700 square feet each.
4. 9 West Walton Street Unit 2701 | $5,811,500
Cook County property records list the buyers of this unit as Andrew and Michelle Baker.
5. 9 West Walton Street Unit 2301 | $5,712,000
This condo sold to John and Kacia Morris, property records show.
6. 9 West Walton Unit 2402 | $5,462,000
A buyer under the shell name of Mary Morris James LLC picked up this unit, according to records.
7. 9 West Walton Unit 704 | $4,023,500
Romlee Weinstein and her husband Allan, a Chicago doctor and infectious disease specialist, bought this seventh-floor unit. In 2016, the Weinsteins listed their 5,200-square-foot Gold Coast condo for $6.2 million, Crain’s reported at the time.
8. 9 West Walton Unit 1503 | $3,599,000
The buyer of this unit concealed its identity through a trust.
9. 1243 West Wrightwood Avenue | $3,200,000
Built in 2016, this five-bedroom single-family home features a rooftop terrace, a deck with a built-in fireplace and a “penthouse bonus room,” according to its Redfin listing. Julia Haywood was listed as the seller on the property, and the buyers were David and Nooshin Felsenthal, a managing director for JLL.
10. 2028 North Fremont Street | $3,050,000
Amy Ennesser and Daniel Engel bought this decade-old, nearly 4,000-square-foot house last, according to property records. The building was sold under an LLC that traces back to Tracy Ward.
