Chicago’s top 10 most expensive home sales in the third quarter totaled more than $62 million — nearly half of which was spent at one under-construction Gold Coast condo tower.

Six of the quarter’s top 10 most expensive residential sales were recorded at JDL Development’s No. 9 Walton Street. Over $29.4 million was spent to buy the six units in the building, according to Cook County property records. The development at 9 West Walton Street has seen record-breaking sales, including billionaire Ken Griffin’s $59 million purchase of four floors in the building — the most expensive home sale in Chicago history.

No. 9 Walton didn’t record that most expensive sale of the quarter, however. That honor went to 1950 North Burling Street, the Lincoln Park mansion that was the third-most expensive listing in the area at the time of it’s sale.

Here are the top 10 residential sales of the third quarter:

1. 1950 North Burling Street | $11.9 million

August’s top residential sale went for about $1 million less than it’s original asking price. The sellers, Conrad and Elizabeth von Peterffy, bought the home in 2012 for $5.36 million. The buyers used a trust for the sale, according to property records. The site is zoned to accommodate a home as large as 17,000 square feet. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff Realty Group’s Janet Owen had the listing.

2. No. 9 Walton Unit 2502 | $6.29 million

This unit on the 25th floor of the 38-story luxury tower sold to a buyer using an entity named WaltonQQ LLC. The sale closed on Aug. 23 and the listing agent was Nancy Tassone with Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty.

3. 159 East Walton Place Unit 23A | $6.25 million

Discount Tire CEO Michael Zuieback bought this full-floor condo on the 23rd floor of the landmark Palmolive Building in early August. It was the 16th residential sale of more than $6 million so far this year. The listing agent was Jennifer Mills Klatt of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty.

4. No. 9 Walton Unit 2401 | $6.11 million

Personal injury lawyer Flip Corboy picked up this 4,400-square-foot, 24th floor condo for just over $6 million. Corboy and his wife also own a 10,000 square foot mansion in Winnetka.
