No. 22 is saying goodbye to No. 9.
Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward sold his 19th-floor condo at JDL Develpment’s ultra-luxury No. 9 Walton tower, according to Crain’s.
An unnamed buyer paid $7.2 million for the four-bedroom, 5,200-square-foot Gold Coast unit in a building that has become a magnet for celebrities and business executives. The sale closed about two years to the day Heyward bought the condo for $6.9 million.
He listed the residence — which includes a 360-foot terrace and walk-in closet Heyward filled with a massive sneaker collection — at $7.6 million in early June and was under contract in two weeks, according to the report.
Nancy Tassone of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty had the listing and brought the buyer, Crain’s noted.
The sale was some good news for Chicago’s luxury market, which has been struggling during the pandemic. Heyward’s condo sale exceeded the total of the five priciest homes in the city that sold last week.
No. 9 Walton tower sold out in January, two years after JDL started listing units. The building, which has 68 units — Ken Griffin paid $59 million to combine four condos — recorded $375 million in total sales.
Heyward’s deal comes just ahead of the start of a Covid-shortened Major League Baseball season. The Cubs will open at Wrigley Field on July 24 against the Milwaukee Brewers. [Crain’s] — Alexi Friedman
