From the Gold Coast to Lincoln Park, there is no shortage of luxury listings in Chicago’s market. A snapshot of the top listings from Oct. 26 shows single-family mansions and estates dominating the rankings of the city’s most expensive real estate. Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty represents some of the most coveted properties, including this ranking’s priciest listing, which has been on the market for the past five years. And despite its age, a condo with a rather cheeky history rounds out the top 10.
1. 1932 N. Burling St., $45 million

Built in 2010, this estate sits on the north side of Chicago’s bustling Lincoln Park neighborhood near the border of Lake Michigan. This single-family home is built across eight lots and a 177 x 149-foot parcel of land. With six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and four partial bathrooms, this $45 million listing is priced at $1,800 per square foot and has manicured grounds, outdoor fountains, a reflecting pool and a hand-forged antique garden pavilion. It has been one of Chicago’s priciest listings since it first showed up on the market in 2016.

Another single-family home, this mansion is located in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. It nearly rivals the square footage of 1932 N. Burling St., but the price per square foot is $937. The property is over 90 years old but had a major remodeling in 2000. The limestone building has a game room, exercise room, theater room, breakfast room and library suite. There is a central courtyard and, on the east end of the property, a garden terrace.

This is the second listing that is centered in Lincoln Park. The $18 million price tag is the starting price point for the project.

Similar to the listing above, this property is represented by The Bowen Group and is part of 1909’s quadruple lot that, according to Bowen’s vice president Charles Grode, may be split into two 50×125-foot lot homes once a buyer is found.
5. 451 E. Grand Ave. #65, $15.17 million

The fifth-priciest listing breaks from single-family homes and is the first condo on the list. The property is also Jameson Sotheby’s and Tim Salm’s second. Built in 2019, this four bedroom and four full bathroom condo was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and developed by Related Midwest. It features 12-foot ceilings and a 65-foot long outdoor terrace. In March 2020, despite a luxury real-estate market rocked by the Covid-19 pandemic, Related made one of the priciest sales of the year worth $6.25 million for a 4,800-square-foot unit on the 63rd floor.
T-6. 11 E. Walton St. #5500, $15 million

There’s a two-way tie for the sixth spot with Premier Relocation’s Susan Miner listing this 6,400 square foot unit at Waldorf Astoria Residences. Built in 2009, the luxury condo is priced at $2,344 per square foot and is just east of Washington Square Park. The unit boasts a custom Snaidero chef’s kitchen and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Lake Michigan.
T-6. 1950 N. Burling St., $15 million

Back on Burling Street for the first time since the No. 1-ranked listing, this 8,000 square foot property was also designed and built by BGD&C, who is advertising the new construction project on 1907 and 1909 N. It has a large backyard area big enough for almost any lawn game.

8. 1500 N. Lake Shore Dr., $12 million

The first co-op on the list comes courtesy of 1500 N. Lake Shore Dr., which recently saw a price decrease from $16.9 million. It’s the third listing on this ranking represented by Jameson Sotheby’s and has 8,000 square feet of interior space and 5,000 square feet of outdoor space. Built in 1927, this is the first time the property is available in over 45 years. According to Sotheby’s, it’s the only Chicago residential commission of famous architect Rosario Candela. The co-op has also been occupied by famous Chicago families, such as the Wrigleys, McCormicks and Fields.
9. 15 W. Burton Pl., $11.98 million

Built in 2008, the home has ceilings nearly 14 feet high and has a home theatre with bar area and a walk-in wine cellar.

Though built in 1929, the unit has new infrastructure while still keeping its original mystique with wood paneling in its original office that is now the master bedroom.
