An end of the year deal has just broken the record for most expensive residential sale in Chicago this year.

The home at 1950 N Burling Street sold for $12.55 million in a deal that closed Dec. 20. The 8,000 square foot property has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

The home was built in 2013 by high-end developer BGD&C on the equivalent of 3.75 standard city lots.

The home’s center entry with double front doors leads into the foyer. On either side of the foyer are the living room and dining room. The living room is anchored by a wood-burning fireplace with a limestone hearth. On the same floor are the kitchen and butler’s pantry.

The second floor features a master bedroom suite, which comprises a sitting area, main bedroom, his and her walk-in wardrobes with custom cabinetry and a master bathroom lit by an oversized skylight. Three other bedrooms are located on the floor.

The lower level hosts a guest suite with a king-sized bedroom, sitting room and private entrance. Also on the lower level, there is a secondary guest bedroom and bathroom, a recreation family room, a fitness studio with custom cubbies and storage, which can convert to a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a custom outfitted laundry room, lower level office, gift wrap room, and two storage rooms.

Outside is a landscaped lawn, with a grass area bordered by a limestone pathway, along with a separate grilling area, paved basketball court and lower side yard.

The sellers are Conrad and Elizabeth Von Peterffy, the owners of Schenker Storen, a Swiss maker of blinds, awnings and shutters.

Tim Sheahan of Compass brought the buyers while Debra Dobbs of The Dobbs Group represented the sellers.

Previously, the priciest home to close last year was 840 North Lake Shore Drive, Unit 2601, which went for $11.25 million.
