Two home sales in Chicago’s northwest suburbs set price records.
A newly constructed mansion in South Barrington sold for $5.3 million Tuesday, the highest-priced home ever sold in the area. The same day, a 20-year-old house in Arlington Heights sold for $3.1 million, setting a record for that town, Crain’s reported.
The 15,000-square-foot, six-bedroom home at 5 Saucer Circle in Barrington sold for $353 per square foot. The home boasts two full kitchens, an elevator and an eight-car garage.
Thos sale surpasses the previous record of $5 million, set in 2022 for a 74-acre equestrian estate at 61 East Palatine Road.
The seller, whose identity wasn’t disclosed, was represented by Steve McEwen of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate. The buyers, who weren’t named, were represented by Sam Lubeck of Baird & Warner.
The property’s price was less than its replacement value, McEwen said. So far this year, 29 homes in the Chicago area have sold for $5 million or more, up from last year’s 26 but below 2022’s peak of 46 such sales by this time.
The 12,500-square-foot, 10-bedroom house at 543 North Highland Avenue in Arlington Heights sold for $248 per square foot. The modified Hamptons-style home features multiple roof peaks, turrets and an interior that includes a swimming pool and a basketball court with a functioning scoreboard.

The sellers, Karen and Robert Dubinsky, built the home in 2004 and decided to downsize now that their children are grown. Jon Millikin of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty represented the Dubinskys in the sale.
The transactions reflect the strength of the luxury housing market in the six-county metro area, where sales of homes priced above $1.5 million have risen 20 percent over the past year, even as the mid-range market has remained relatively flat.
