Oak Brook mansion fetches highest price since 2009 in $5.3M sale

Contemporary-style house got strong demand amid slim luxury market in western suburbs

Oak Brook Mansion Sells Fast for $5.3M

An Oak Brook mansion has sold for $5.3 million, the highest price achieved for a home sale in the western suburb of Chicago in 16 years.

The one-acre property at 412 Fox Trail Court sits on a cul-de-sac in the gated Hunter Trails community, near a forest preserve and golf courses. The contemporary-style house has five bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms, and 10,000 square feet of living space, with a pool in the back, according to real estate listings.

Sales above $5 million are rare in the western suburbs, and demand has been mixed, with some properties selling relatively quickly and some sitting on the market for months or more. Michael Lafido with LPT Realty, who represented the seller on the Fox Trail Court house, said there was huge demand for the listing, which sold for $105,000 over asking.

“We had multiple offers and we had 14 showings in two weeks, and even when we were under contract, we had a handful of agents begging to get in there to see it,” LaFido said. “You don’t typically see that kind of activity at $2 million, let alone $5 million and up.”

The previous owner bought the house in 2023 for $4.75 million. It was listed for $5.2 million in August and went under contract less than a month later. Peggy Sersen with Redfin represented the buyer.

Lafido and Sersen declined to share details about the seller and buyer. The home was previously held under a trust, and property tax bills were addressed to Nikola Kozul. Records that would indicate the buyer aren’t yet available.

The previous owner paid $38,600 in property taxes this year, property records show.

The $5.3 million sale price marks the highest Oak Brook home sale since 2009, when a nearby mansion on Adams Road sold for $5.45 million. The village’s record was set in 2003, when Chicago White Sox Hall of Famer Frank Thomas sold his 27,000 square-foot mansion for $7.95 million. The house has traded a few times since then, most recently for $4.5 million in 2021.

Only a few other Oak Brook homes have sold for more than $4 million since 2020, according to public listing services. An 11,000 square-foot mansion on Oak Court brought in $4 million in December, and a 12,000 square-foot property on Breakenridge Farm Road brought in $4.8 million in 2023.

Oak Brook luxury listings are slim: One home is listed publicly above $4 million in the village, an ornate castle-style estate that went on the market in April for just under $5 million.
