Brandon Cruz, cofounder of Chicago-based health tech firm GoHealth, and his wife, Catherine, sold their seven-bedroom Lincoln Park mansion for $4.5 million last month, below the $5 million they initially sought.
The couple closed on the sale Oct. 9, according to property records cited by the Chicago Tribune. The 7,000-square-foot home sold for almost $643 per square foot.
They paid $3.65 million in 2012 — or $521 per square foot for the home. They listed it this spring after buying a 10-bedroom, 11,000-square-foot estate in unincorporated Winnetka once owned by the late Chicago businessman Andrew McKenna.
The Cruzes paid $5.7 million, or $513 per square foot, for the McKenna property in June 2023. Their ownership via a land trust hadn’t been previously reported.
The brick-and-limestone Lincoln Park house, built in 2010 on a 33-foot-wide lot and located at 2015 North Dayton Street, features seven bathrooms, multiple fireplaces, a four-stop elevator and designer finishes throughout.
Amenities include a media room, wine cellar, gym and heated three-car garage. Outdoor spaces boast a bluestone patio with a fireplace and a 500-square-foot deck over the garage, with a pergola, pizza oven and retractable TV.
The Cruzes put the home on the market for $5 million before trimming the price to $4.85 million in May and finding a buyer three months later. The purchaser was an opaque land trust whose beneficiary hasn’t been identified. Ryan Preuett of Sotheby’s International represented the sellers, and Danny Leung of Baird & Wartner represented the buyers.
Cruz co-founded GoHealth in 2001 to build software for insurance brokers. The company has evolved into a major Medicare-focused digital health marketplace. The federal government recently accused GoHealth and other brokers of receiving illegal kickbacks from insurers for enrolling seniors in their Medicare Advantage plans, allegations GoHealth has denied. Cruz, who led the firm as president until 2020, now serves as co-chairman of its board.
