Jameson Sotheby’s hires Megan Mawicke to lead in Winnetka’s hot luxury market

Brokerage leans into boutique brand in push for piece of North Shore

Jameson Sotheby’s International Real Estate is making a push into the North Shore, bringing on Megan Mawicke from @properties to lead its Winnetka office.

The move comes as more brokerages are zeroing in on the North Shore luxury market, which has propelled the Chicago market’s outstanding year. Some of Chicagoland’s most-expensive homes sales this year were in Winnetka, including a record-breaking $31.3 million deal

A Winnetka office is “long overdue” for the brokerage, Mawicke said in a LinkedIn post.

The firm sought Mawicke out when it was looking to expand its North Shore presence, said Mark Pasquesi, Jameson Sotheby’s president of real estate services and managing broker for Lake Forest and Winnetka.

Mawicke, a former TV anchor and sports reporter, started selling real estate in 2020. She and her brother, John Mawicke, made up the Mawicke Group at @properties. The Mawicke Group has closed more than $250 million in sales since 2020, according to a news release. Mawicke’s late mother, Barbara, was also a longtime North Shore real estate agent.

John Mawicke is staying at @properties, Megan Mawicke confirmed.

Sales in the ritzy suburbs are dominated by @properties and Compass, which hold a large share of the area’s listings, but other brokerages are taking their shots in the North Shore.

Peter Cummins, also a former @properties agent, recently jumped from @properties to Baird & Warner to lead a new North Shore team. And Janice Corley’s RE/MAX Premier bought a handful of offices from Compass in the North Shore to kickstart business there. Compass sold offices in cities where @properties also had a presence as part of its purchase of the local brokerage last year.

Jameson Sotheby’s is getting into the mix with plans to open offices in Winnetka, Lake Forest and Glenview in the coming months.

The Lake Forest office, at 1050 North Western Avenue, will open this winter, Pasquesi said. The Winnetka and Glenview offices are expected to open next year. Pasquesi was brought on in March to manage the Lake Forest and Winnetka offices.

Jameson Sotheby’s has agents that sell in the North Shore, but its office farthest north is in Evanston.

The brokerage plans to compete with @properties and Compass by leaning into its boutique, luxury brand, rather than building a large agent roster, Pasquesi said.

“We’re not going into this intending to have the most agents or be No. 1 in market share,” he said. “We’re not going to compete on size, we’re focused on identifying and curating the best team of advisors.”

Jameson Sotheby’s is a franchise of Sotheby’s International Real Estate, a subsidiary of Anywhere Real Estate, which is set to come under the ownership of Compass if its plan to purchase Anywhere is approved by regulators. Franchises of Anywhere’s brands are expected to remain independent under the merger.
