Former Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine offloaded his Gold Coast condo for $6.4 million, taking a loss on the property he bought three years ago.

LaVine, who was traded to the Sacramento Kings in February, bought the 28th-floor condo at 9 West Walton for $6.9 million in 2022, taking it over from former Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack. He listed it for the same price in March, taking about a 7 percent loss on the final sale price.

Nancy Tassone with Jameson Sotheby’s represented LaVine in the sale. She declined to comment. Jeff Lowe, a Compass agent who represented the buyer, declined to share details about the purchaser, whose name is not yet available in public records.

The 4,500-square-foot unit has three bedrooms and four bathrooms. It features a 750-square-foot wraparound terrace equipped with a hot tub, and a 60-inch linear fireplace in the living room.

The primary suite is outfitted with a sitting room and a built-in bar, along with a bathroom that includes a custom tub with a pop-up TV lift and a built-in champagne bucket.

Lowe, who has sold units in the building to multiple clients, said the condo tower’s units have some of the most expansive outdoor spaces in the area.

“The outdoor space is incredible. It’s also boutique, the amenities are awesome,” he said.

The 2024 tax bill for the unit was close to $120,000, according to public records, and it carries a $4,900 monthly homeowner’s association fee.

LaVine’s exit marks the latest turnover in a building that has become a hot spot for Chicago’s elite athletes and billionaires.

In addition to Lavine’s purchase from Mack, billionaire Citadel founder Ken Griffin purchased the top four floors of the building for more than $58 million in 2017. After leaving Chicago for Miami, Griffin offloaded the units for a significant loss. Gov. J.B. Pritzker bought two for $19 million.

Patrick Kane, a legendary former Blackhawks skater, also sold his 25th-floor condo there for $6.4 million earlier this year.
