This dataset ranks the most active architects in New York City for new buildings and alterations.
The source data for this ranking is from The New York City Department of Buildings, and includes all five boroughs. The New Building and Alterations permits analyzed were issued between April 1, 2021, and April 1, 2022.
For the purpose of the New Building rankings, we tallied the latest permits issued for each project with the permit type initial filings I1s only where the registered architect is listed as the applicant. Alteration permits are the latest issued for each project with the permit type Alterations, Alterations with CO and ALT - CO - new building with existing elements and were counted only where the registered architect is listed as the applicant.
The dataset includes the city’s top 20 most active architects for new buildings (based on total square footage) and for alterations (based on cost estimates), and includes a count of each architect’s projects. This set also includes the raw data file of the over 45,000 permits examined.
