Los Feliz saw an uptick in high-priced home sales in 2017.
There were 72 single-family home sales above $2 million in the northeast Los Angeles enclave, up from 61 in 2016, and 11 sales over $4 million, up from eight the previous year, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Actress Angelina Jolie’s $24.5 million purchase of a two-acre estate topped the list of most expensive transactions in Los Feliz last year. The property houses an 11,000-square-foot, six-bedroom mansion that was built in 1913. Famed filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille lived there for 40 years until his death in 1959.
Jolie’s June purchase dwarfed the other big deals in the area. The second priciest transaction was for an 8,000-square-foot Spanish-style home on De Mille Drive formerly owned by designer Xorin Balbes. The $9.7 million sale price was $1 million dollars below its ask.
In July, a modern home on High Oak Drive sold for $7.7 million, just two months after hitting the market. The house sits on the end of a private road and features a wraparound second-story balcony. A motorized glass wall opens to a pool and spa in the backyard.
Film producer and writer Stephanie Savage picked up nearly 100-year-old estate on East Live Oak Drive, just on the border of the Hollywood Hills, for $5.9 million in October. Savage’s new pad is nearly 5,000 square feet and has six bedrooms, a large motor court, as well as a guesthouse and a separate sauna.
Rounding out the top five sales in Los Feliz was the $4.9 million buy of the Wong Residence on Nottingham Place. The modern home was built in 1969 and was once owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson. [LAT] —Dennis Lynch
