Keck Medicine of USC plans to open a second outpatient medical center in Pasadena, on a prime site directly across from Huntington Hospital.
Development of the four-story, 100,000-square-foot medical office building at 590 South Fair Oaks Avenue represents a $250 million investment, according to a report from the Los Angeles Business Journal. It will be situated just one block from Keck Medicine’s current outpatient clinic.
The expansion aims to significantly enhance the health care provider’s footprint in Pasadena and the broader San Gabriel Valley. Slated to become Keck Medicine’s largest and most advanced outpatient setting, the new center will provide access to the institution’s specialists.
According to Rod Hanners, CEO of Keck Medicine, the new site will allow more patients to benefit from research-driven clinical care in a convenient and technologically advanced environment.
Huntington Hospital is owned by Cedars-Sinai, a rival to USC Keck in the Southern California hospital market.
The new outpatient medical facility will offer outpatient services such as cardiovascular and oncology care, infusion therapy, orthopedic and spine treatments, outpatient surgeries, physical therapy and imaging. Additionally, it will provide specialized care for autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and psoriasis.
A major highlight of the new center is the inclusion of cutting-edge biology-guided radiation therapy. This technology sends real-time signals that identify the precise location of cancer cells, allowing radiation oncologists to more accurately target malignant cells while sparing healthy tissue. This innovative treatment has earned breakthrough device designation from the Food and Drug Administration and is currently approved for use in certain cases of lung and bone cancer.
