Here’s hoping this one sticks.
That may be what Jim Carrey’s thinking with his Brentwood mansion at 615 North Tigertail Road. The home, which is asking $18.8 million, found a buyer last week to top a list of Los Angeles County homes that went into contract during the seven-day period.
This would be the second time the Tigertail Road estate went into contract for Carrey, after the home claimed the No. 1 spot in the same Douglas Elliman Eklund Gomes weekly report of signed contracts in mid-December when it had an asking price of $19.8 million. The home went back on the market in February for the same $19.8 million listing price, which is down from the $28.9 million Carrey originally sought when he hung up the for-sale sign in February 2023.
Sotheby’s International Realty’s Graham J. Larson holds the listing.
The actor and comedian, known for his roles in “The Truman Show” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” told the The Wall Street Journal in 2023 it made sense to sell the compound given he doesn’t frequent the property as much as in the past.
“I want someone else to enjoy it like I have,” Carrey told the newspaper.
The five-bedroom, nine-bathroom estate totals nearly 11,000 square feet and is cloaked in privacy with 280 feet of hedges fronting the property. It sits on a 2-acre lot, with gardens, a tennis court, gazebo, pool with a waterfall and wet bar, steam room and a treetop platform meant for yoga and meditation.
Carrey’s property was one of 18 homes that went into contract last week, according to the Eklund Weekly Luxury Report Los Angeles. The report, which is compiled by Eklund Gomes’ Marcy Roth, counts L.A. County properties in the Multiple Listing Service asking $4 million or more.
Last week’s contracts amounted to $134.8 million in asking dollar volume, which is up about 2 percent from the year-ago period, according to Roth. Compared to the previous week, total volume tumbled 37 percent.
Some 95 listings were added to the market last week, which is 20 less than the prior week, bringing total inventory to 1,501 properties.
As Roth put it, the market’s “a bit of a roller coaster here in Los Angeles in the short term, but it’s safe to say over the long term we have a relatively steady real estate outlook.”
After Carrey’s estate, the next largest home to go into contract last week, based on asking price, was 1005 Elden Way. The five-bed, six-bath home in Beverly Hills is listed for $18 million.
Property records show the home last traded in 2013 for $7.6 million to a trust tied to attorney Robin-Hwajin Yoon Kim. A foundation under the same name has made several donations to organizations such as the Korean American Scholarship Foundation and Boston University Tanglewood Institute.
Coldwell Banker Realty’s Christophe Choo holds the listing.
Spanning over 6,000 square feet, the Elden Way property sits above the Beverly Hills Hotel and has a motor court, a living room with 22-foot ceilings, custom millwork and a primary suite with dual vanities and a soaking tub.
Over $9 million was pumped into renovating the property, which now includes a smart home system, according to the listing.
