It’s a new brokerage and a new market for Steve Katz.
After quietly exiting Beverly Hills-based Hilton & Hyland as managing director earlier this year, Katz has turned up at Syd Leibovitch’s Rodeo Realty to serve as branch manager of the company’s Encino office.
It’s a fresh start for Katz, who had been with Hilton & Hyland for a little over a year up until the end of January amid a stretch of operational changes at the brokerage helmed by Chair Lori Hyland.
Katz stepped in to fill a gap left after former CEO Billy Jack Carter left in early 2024 for family reasons. Since then, the brokerage, which was founded by the late Jeff Hyland and Rick Hilton, has seen agent departures, a dispute with its former landlord and a more recent office move to another space in Beverly Hills. Among the more notable departures was former President David Kramer decamping with his team to Compass in late 2024 to focus on selling.
Before Hilton & Hyland, Katz also served in management at Sotheby’s International Realty and as a former branch manager at Coldwell Banker Realty.
Aside from Katz, here’s a look at who else in Southern California residential real estate had a recent change of scenery.
➤ Coldwell Banker Real Estate is on a tear.
The Coldwell Banker Envision franchise, which was formed late last year with the addition of a former Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties franchisee, just brought another group into its fold.
Coldwell Banker Envision added Anthony Nguyen and 20 agents from what previously operated as the iKonic team at Keller Williams. The team focuses on athlete and celebrity representation and spurred the launch of a sports and entertainment division at Coldwell Banker Envision.
The Envision group now totals over 1,300 agents across 16 locations in Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties.
➤ Douglas Elliman wooed Trevor Zien away from The Agency.
Zien joined the brokerage’s Beverly Hills office with a focus on Pacific Palisades and the broader Westside.
Among his larger deals was the 2020, $11.5 million sale of 321 Alma Real Drive in Pacific Palisades. The closing on the home, which sits on nearly an acre, amounted to $2,450 per square foot. There was also the 2022 sale of 3814 Surfwood Road in Malibu, which sold for $5 million, or $2,750 per square foot.
➤ Elsewhere at Elliman, and south of Los Angeles County, the brokerage brought on the Jackson Arnett Group to its Del Mar office. They had previously been with Compass.
Delorine Jackson and Ian Arnett lead the group, which also includes Bayley Bachiero.
The team closed on over $160 million in volume last year and averages over $3 million when it comes to the price of each home they sell, according to the brokerage.
The group currently holds the listings for 5315 La Crescenta in Rancho Santa Fe, which is priced at $16.5 million. There’s also 6627 Calle Ponte Bella in Rancho Santa Fe, which is asking $6.4 million.
➤ Beverly Hills-based brokerage Nourmand & Associates added Annie Alvandi, who brings a focus on Marina del Rey, Mar Vista, Playa Vista, Santa Monica, Westwood and Beverly Hills.
The broker received her license about a year ago, after making the switch from her family’s gas station business to enter real estate. Before taking on the family business, Alvandi was an Orange County elementary school teacher.
Elsewhere at Nourmand & Associates, the brokerage snapped up Karin Beck.
Beck, a former producer of international commercial campaigns, specializes in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades among other markets.
➤ Adrian Quijano, who was previously with eXP Realty, made the move with his Aq Team to Realty of America in San Diego.
The group was founded and is led by Quijano and his wife Marena Quijano. In the three years since focusing on real estate full time in 2021, the group has done more than $100 million in sales volume annually.
