Dakota Johnson didn’t have to wait long to find a buyer for her longtime Los Angeles home.
The “Fifty Shades of Grey” star sold her Hollywood Hills home for just above $5.92 million, only days after listing it late last month for $5.95 million, nearly doubling the roughly $3.6 million she paid for the property in 2016, Realtor.com reported. Engel & Völkers Beverly Hills’ Ruby Fay held the listing.
The 3,210-square-foot residence at 1657 Marmont Avenue sits east of The Bird Streets just above Chateau Marmont on the Sunset Strip. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home was designed in 1947 by noted California modernist Carl Maston and underwent extensive renovations under Johnson’s ownership.
The actress preserved midcentury touches like exposed beams, wood paneling and glass walls while updating the interiors to reflect her personal style. The primary suite was reworked with a custom pink bathroom, while outdoor spaces include a pool, multiple entertaining terraces, a fire pit and mature landscaping that gives the home a treehouse-like feel.
Johnson showcased the renovation work in a shoot for Architectural Digest in 2020. At the time, the “Madame Web” star couldn’t imagine parting with the property. “I was immediately drawn to how it was clean but also cozy,” she told the publication, calling the home her “anchor.”
“I thought, ‘I’ll never want to sell this place,’” she said at the time.
Johnson has grown her real estate portfolio since buying the Marmont Avenue property at the height of her “Fifty Shades” fame. Last year, the actress acquired a renovated Mediterranean-style home in nearby Outpost Estates last year for about $5.3 million, according to property records cited by Realtor.com. In 2020, she and her former partner, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, bought a home in Malibu for $12.5 million. That property traded about a year later for $14.4 million.
