New Yorker Arianne Fernandez received a foreclosure notice in error for a Port St. Lucie condo once owned by her late grandfather that the family had sold in 2007. Other family members also received notices of the lawsuit because their names showed up on a title search for the property, and if they hadn’t responded, their credit records could have suffered, says attorney Virginia Sherlock. The lawyer got the Fernandez family dropped from the suit two weeks ago by proving that they no longer owned the property. But Fernandez worries about other people who might be in her position without even realizing it, and area lawyers share her concerns.
