Would-be buyers fix up homes 

Because of the weakening economy and the down housing market, homeowners are fixing up their homes instead of buying new ones. Home Depot saw losses in the second quarter, but its best-performing categories were in home repair, including plumbing and goods for kitchens and bathrooms. Energy-efficient products are also selling well as buyers try to cut fuel expenses.
