The Florida Supreme Court on Wednesday removed the controversial Amendment 5 plan — which would lower property taxes at the expense of school financing — from the Nov. 4 ballot, deciding that the bill’s voter summary was misleading about its potential implications for school funding. The unanimous 7-0 decision followed hours of courtroom arguments, which ended in a ruling that the plan’s explanations for continued school funding didn’t extend beyond 2010 and 11. Justice Charles Wells said the plan was more like a limited warranty than a lifetime guarantee, and was inadequate.
