Chemical cleanup may increase the
cost of the state’s $1.34 billion
purchase
of about 181,000 acres of land from U.S. Sugar Corp. More than 85,000
acres of the purchased land could need cleanup, which could cost anywhere from
$17.7 million to $119 million, according to an environmental study made public
today. The state is purchasing the land as part of its Everglades restoration
efforts.
